I am considering getting a plug-in hybrid. This will of course increase the electricity bill. Does anyone know a way to isolate this extra cost somehow? Perhaps some kind of smart meter at the socket? I’m not sure.

I would recommend getting a granny charger (Master plug 10A 2.3kW Mode 2 Type 2 Socket Electric Vehicle charging cable) to show the kWh used. That why you would be able to monitor it.

I think there is a misconception about how much of a load even a slow plugin hybrid charger is pulling because you just plug it into a normal socket.
