I am an owner of a i3. I am concerned about the availability of battery upgrades to future proof the vehicle. I know that carbon fiber is very hard to recycle, although I believe BMW have to offer a responsible scrapping disposal. Any thoughts?
If you shred CFRP you reduce the fiber length, so it becomes much less strong/useful and separating plastic and fiber is likely to be difficult & energy intensive.
I do expect it would be stripped of all useful items. They cut it into small bits so it could just be put in a bin. Its easier to get rid of that rather than a metal shell although it might not be legal.
